Skin Care Application Process
The skin around the eye is extremely thin, so eye cream should be applied first. Eye treatments are concentrated and the eyes often show aging first, so the eye area should receive the full benefit of the product. Working from the cheekbone up, pat, don’t rub the product into the eye area.
Whether day or night, serums should be applied after the eye cream so the skin receives the full benefit. If applying multiple serums, start with any containing retinols, AHA’s or BHA’s, following with any moisturizing serums or oils. Counseling an aesthetician is the easiest way to ensure your skincare routine is applied in the correct order.(Importance of lending of expertise) Retinols should ALWAYS be applied to clean dry skin first, and always at night.
Consider the moisturizer the top coat of the skin care routine. It is there not only to provide hydration to the skin, but as a sealant for all of the power-packed serums, oils, and eye treatments. A little goes a long way, and it should be massaged into the skin, neck, and decollete thoroughly using upward motions.
Protecting your skin from the sun is a non-negotiable part of the skin care routine. The molecule found in most sunscreens is larger than the pores found in the face, therefore it should be the last thing applied.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I know what order and what time to place my skin care products in?
Our aestheticians will work with you to educate patients with skin care. This means cleansing of skin, followed by skin care application process.
Can I use products I purchased elsewhere?
Yes, patients can use outside products but we can not verify either the authenticity or “freshness” of the products. Some skin care products have extremely short shelf lives and when offices throw them away, they may end up for pennies on the dollar on sites like Amazon or Ebay. It is better to receive a known skin care product which our office can guarantee the authenticity of the product.
We do have patients who have a cleanser or outside product that they “swear” by. We are happy to review the efficacy of this product and if patients are buying a legitimate product which is necessary we will help you incorporate this into my routine.
How do I know if my skin care products are working properly?
Skin care products active ingredients will each have a different goal in changing your skin. Our skin care products efficacy is based on the quality of the ingredients, the freshness of the products, and a high percentage of medical grade ingredients.
For retinols, skin may initially appear red during the exfoliation process. Signs that retinol is working is that the texture of the skin should be softer and the complexion more even. For growth factors, the skin texture will also appear fuller and smoother. Many patients will notice slight blemishes initially as sebaceous glands can be stimulated early on. Skin lighteners take at least 6 weeks to work as they don’t actually lighten or bleach the skin but prevent the cells responsible for the excess pigment (called melanocytes) to prevent making further pigment. The abnormal pigment will persist until the skin is exfoliated or turned over which can take 6-8 weeks.
If I am having a reaction to a skin care product who should I contact?
Our office and aestheticians have a high degree of knowledge of each skin care product. Our products are not scented and most have the medical grade ingredient in a preservative and hormone free carrier. Reactions are rare but our office can assist.

Can I purchase a product without seeing someone in the office?

- Educate you on proper use and times and amount of product
- Provide you a point of contact for future products
- Since these products are physician grade and highly potent, it is best for patients to have guidance from our office.
