Once part of the face that is getting a lot of attention from patients recently is the ears. Ears can begin to age rather early, as gravity weighs them down.
Patients are now look complement the youthful appearance provided by facial fillers, botox, or facelifts with tweaks to the ears.
What is an earlift?
As we get older many parts of our face start to stretch and start to sag.
The reason for this is loss of elasticity of our tissues (think of the difference between a baby’s skin and grandma’s), gravity and loss of volume.
One area that can become surprisingly a tell-tale sign of aging is sagging ears.
The ear tissue, like other parts of the body, will start to sag creating longer more stretched ear lobes. In addition, the loss of elasticity coupled with the weight of some earrings can lead to tearing of the earlobe.
An earlift is a procedure designed to lift the ears to a more youthful position. Extra tissue that is sagging is reduced in some cases.
In other cases, a filler such as Restylane, is used to create a more supple earlobe. Both of these procedures are performed in the office with little to no downtime.
While fixing the ears may sound like a minor change in appearance, for some patients the ability to wear earrings, swept up hair or short hair again, can be a big boost in confidence.
