Arnica

07/05/2016 by Anil R. Shah, MD

Arnica

ArnicaArnica Montana is a large flowering European plant which has reputed therapeutic benefits which include decreased bruising and pain. Arnica is typically administered in either a pill or topical form.

Taken in its pure form, Arnica can cause rapid heartbeat, liver failure and death.

Many surgeons use Arnica a few days prior to a surgical procedure and a few days after due to its supposed effects in decreasing bruising and pain.

The use of Arnica is based on alternative medicine or homeopathy. Arnica is diluted to the appropriate level depending on whether it is used topically or orally ingested.
