Many people recognize that retinols and retinoids are used to shrink sebaceous glands and help turn skin cells over. But what a lot of patients don’t realize is that retinol creams can help shrink your nose skin. Some patients struggle with excessive oil production and swollen glands in their nasal pores which results in their nose looking bigger and pore-filled. If you look at celebrities for example, you’ll notice that their noses tend to get wider over time. A factor that contributes to this, including loss of tip support, is thickening of the nose skin. I like to advise many of my patients that worry about defining their nose and contouring it, especially with patients with thicker skin, to use a strong retinol product twice per day.
I personally developed a specific Retinol 150 that is one of the strongest retinol creams on the market. Patients should be conscious of sun exposure when applying any type of retinol creams as it makes the superficial skin extra sensitive to uv light ralys. I would advise that this cream is most effective when used twice per day- morning and evening- specifically to the nose. The product can last around 6 months or longer and many of my patients notice visible improvements in the first 6-8 weeks.
