No one wants a bruise after filler. But it can happen! Even when performed by seasoned injectors. So, here are some tips from Dr. Shah and Dr. Sameea on how to avoid bruising:
- Prepare yourself: Before your appointment, make sure you avoid taking any supplements and medications (check with your doctor first) to avoid making your blood too thin. For example, ginseng and fish oil thins your blood and can make a small needle poke turn into a purple bruise. You can also take things to the next level by taking MEND cosmetic 5 days before and 3 days after to prepare your body for filler. It is everything you want and nothing more – just mix in with your smoothie :).
- Visualize that vein: Dr Shah, Dr. Sameea, and their team use vein finders to help visualize your veins so that you can potentially avoid bruising. While this does not eliminate bruising, it can help decrease your chances.
- Don’t hit the gym: Don’t workout the day of filler as it can lead to increase in blood pressure which can swell up and create a delayed bruise. Working out immediately after can also shift your filler (which is not a good thing either).
- Injector experience: Injector experience means more than just doing a lot of injections. Dr. Shah and Dr. Sameea are some of the top injectors for both Allergan and Galderma, the largest manufacturers of fillers in the world. They’ve discovered better entry points, use specially sourced needles and cannulas, and help improve the injection process to minimize discomfort too.
