More and more african american rhinoplasty patients are seeking nasal refinement (rhinoplasty or nose job) but many have the same concern. Their fear is that rhinoplasty will lead to poor scarring in and around the nose, otherwise known as a keloid. A keloid is an overgrowth of scar tissue which can lead to wide large unsightly scars.
Fortunately in rhinoplasty, keloids are extremely rare. In fact, I have never seen a keloid or heard of a keloid (including literature search). This does not mean it is possible, but does mean it is very unlikely.
Keloids are more likely to occur in and around the ear.
