More than 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures (both minimally invasive and surgical) were performed in the US in 2012, the most ever. The largest increase was in minimally invasive procedures. Botox was the most popular, followed by soft tissue facial fillers, chemical peels, and laser hair removal.
So why do the minimally invasive procedures continue to rise. Patients love these procedures for several reasons. First of all, the results are appreciable soon and cost effective compared to a surgical procedure. There are not many things which for under $1000 can make you look better instantly and for a sustained period of time. The value lies for many patients in feeling better about themselves.
Many of these procedures are performed quite comfortably in the office with little to no downtime. Certain procedures, such as any type of filler around the eye can have a higher chance of creating downtime such as a bruise and slight swelling. Other procedures such as botox, have a very low chance of creating a bruise. Many patients have these procedures on their lunch break and go back to work.
