What is Female Rejuvenation and Why Have One?
Female Rejuvenation is a non-surgical approach to tightening and rejuvenating the vaginal area using lasers and other techniques such as injectable fillers.
Traditionally speaking, female genitourinary form and function has been approached by using invasive surgeries or hormone medications. While there is no perfect solution, non-invasive female rejuvenation has become more popular recently. Due to hormonal changes and childbirth, the vaginal lining and canal can no longer function properly. In the past, the only option were invasive surgical procedures such as suspending the uterus, placing mesh, and other options. Recently, hormone replacements have taken front and center with both oral replacement of hormone therapy as well as topical. The problems with hormone replacement is that they can be expensive and have side effects such as promotion of breast cancer as well as clotting disorders.
Noninvasive female rejuvenation offers female the latest approach in several common issues. For patients with lining issues, resurfacing procedures can replace hormone therapy and offer patients many advantages. For patients with laxity issues and several types of prolapse, radiofrequency procedures can range from no downtime procedures to limited downtime without surgery or medications.
Why have Dr. Sameea Chughtai perform Female Rejuvenation Treatment?
Dr. Sameea Chughtai is a specialist in female rejuvenation. Her focus is on noninvasive techniques to improve the form and function of the female genitourinary system. She has helped women for over 15 years with female reproductive health including pap smears and female wellness visits. Many women would present to her with complaints of lining issues, coitus issues or laxity and the options at that time were quite limited. As a frequent prescriber of topical hormonal and oral hormonal medications, Dr. Chughtai was often frustrated with the limited options available.
As the first user of the Voltiva platform in Chicago, Dr. Chughtai has embraced noninvasive female rejuvenation as a viable alternative to hormones and surgery. Many of her patients now can enjoy and experience a more fulfilling life.
The Science of Female Genitourinary Aging
Women are exposed to potential dramatic changes to their bodies which includes changes to the lining and elasticity of their reproductive system with aging and the trauma of childbirth.
Aging of the Labia, Vulva and Vagina
As women age there is a change in pigmentation either hyper or hypopigmentation with a loss of volume of the external genitalia. There is also a looseness and decrease supporting tissue to the Labia Majora and Minora which can be concerning to women aesthetically.
The G-spot injection places a filler such as Juvederm or Restylane into the anterior region of the vaginal vault where there is a density of sensory endings thought to be responsible for increased sexual gratification and stimulation during intimacy. The G-shot injection will last for about 9-12 or more and need to be repeated every 9-16m.
Vulovaginal Atrophy Treatment and Genitourinary Symptoms of Menopause (GSM)
This is a condition caused by a decline of estrogen as a result of peri/postmenopause or the decrease of estrogen following chemotherapy and cancer treatment. The result is a diminished blood flow to the vagina, less cell turnover and thus less vaginal secretions. This causes vaginal dryness, inflammation and pain. The atrophy is associated with discharge, problems with lubrication, and can lead to painful intercourse. There can also be urinary symptoms such as painful urination (dysuria), stress incontinence and discomfort associated with this condition.
Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome (VRS), Vaginal Laxity and Laser Vaginal Tightening
VRS is a generalized laxity of the vaginal canal and opening. This looseness can cause decreased sensation and responsiveness during intimacy and cause a decline in satisfaction. The most common cause of VRS is an age related decrease in estrogen, decrease in blood flow and a loss of supporting tissue which in turn leads to diminished muscular tone, thickness and therefore sensation. This condition can also happen in younger women following multiple childbirths and traumatic deliveries causing tears. VRS can also happen after treatment of some female cancers where the effect of estrogen has been blocked.
The nonsurgical treatment options available for VRS include Forma-V, Fractora-V and V-Tite. These minimally to noninvasive devices use a radiofrequency energy to improve the symptoms of laxity, dryness, pain/discomfort, incontinence and satisfaction with intimacy and coitus.

FEMALE REJUVENATION PROCEDURES OFFERED
Forma V is a non- ablative, non invasive vaginal and labial rejuvenation device. There is no downtime with this heating device and patients may return immediately to activities and sex. This treatment works best for mild cases alone or in combo with other treatment modalities. The RF energy gently heats the vaginal mucosa and external labial tissue while monitoring the lining temperatures and then turns off the temperature and sustains the set heating point preventing any overheating and burns. This results in remodeling of the tissue with increased tightening and secretions. The Forma V is a series of two to three sessions every 2-4 weeks but can vary depending on patient response.
Fractora V- Non surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation
Fractora V is an ablative radiofrequency (RF) device. It has a vaginal applicator composed of an array of small pins in which radiofrequency energy streams down creating thermal injury. The thermal application is fractionated leaving uninjured alternating areas from which new tissue is created. This new tissue incorporates new supporting tissue (collagen, elastin and mucinous producing cells) which promotes tightening to area, more lubrication, less irritation and more enjoyment. The RF current also flows up the negative electrodes creating a non ablative tightening as well. Thus, the Fractora V provides a two-fold benefit of ablation and tightening.
Usually one treatment is necessary however additional treatments may be repeated after 1-4 weeks based on pt response and at the physician’s discretion.
The V-Tite is an ablative minimally invasive radiofrequency device that uses a bipolar RF electrode for the treatment of vaginal laxity and symptoms of vaginal relaxation syndrome. This device has one electrode that is inserted under the vaginal mucosa and epithelium while an external electrode moves in tandem along the vaginal walls to provide RF stimulation to the tissue. This is a single treatment but may require maintenance every 3-4 months with Fractora V or Forma V.
The Forma V is a gentle, non ablative procedure and patients may return to most activities immediately. Sexual intimacy can be resumed in 2 days. Hot water should also be avoided to treated area for 2 days after procedure.
Following Fractora treatments healing ointments like Aquaphor or Vaseline should be applied to the area. It is normal for tiny scabs to appear after 1-3 days and stay for a few days after treatment. The scabs should be left alone and allowed to flake off naturally. Heat or mechanical damage to the area should be avoided for 7 days following treatment. Sexual activity is not recommended for six weeks following treatment.
Patients may return to normal activities immediately after this procedure. However, sexual activity is not recommended for six weeks.
