What are exosomes, exactly? Well, it’s a lot of science! I’m going to try to explain exosomes as simply as possible.
Exosomes are derived from human, mesenchymal growth factors. These growth factors are not gathered from fetuses, but are instead retrieved from connective tissues. The role of exosomes is very broad because they can achieve a lot of different things!
Exosomes are responsible for three roles (1) direct-cell differentiation, (2) trans-cell differentiation, and (3) paracrine signaling. Now, the first two roles are primarily important with growth factors. Exosomes are a signaling component that can help growth factors transform into a particular cell, such as a liver cell, a heart cell, and etc. Exosomes not only affect growth factors directly, but affect nearby cells as well (this is the trans-cellular differentiation part).
When used in facial plastics, we don’t necessarily care about the first two roles as growth factors are no longer abundant in adult bodies. Rather, we care about the third role, the paracrine signaling role. This is a chemical cascade for cell-to-cell communication. When one cell receives exosomes, similar to the domino effect the cells pass the message along. the signal will then be passed on to its neighboring cell and so on. Exosomes carry over 1,000 different types of signaling proteins, which are responsible for gathering growth factors, anti-inflammatory responses, cancerous tumor prevention, and regenerative healing.
So how many exosomes does one person receive? There are over 10 Billion exosomes per 1 milliliter of exosome product. One standard exosome treatment at Shah Aesthetics in Chicago offers 5 milliliters. That’s over 50 Billion exosomes!
Exosomes have many healing and regenerative uses. At Shah Aesthetics in Chicago, we have been using our exosome treatments for hair growth and facial skin rejuvenation. For hair restoration, a patient can expect to see visible results as early as 6 weeks! We’ve also loved using Exosome treatments as complementary benefits to lasers, microneedling and hair restoration procedures. After your treatment, the skin will have a much faster cellular turnover compared to any Biorestorative topical cream on the market. With exosomes, your skin is healing itself in its most natural way possible.
