It’s Time to Heal

Acne scars affect as many as 10 million people each year, but Dr. Shah offers a variety of effective treatment options to address this common issue. Using the latest lasers, needling devices, and radiofrequency devices, he can stimulate collagen production in the body, resulting in less visible acne scars.

Treating acne scars has historically been a challenging task, with older therapies often requiring deep skin removal, resulting in long healing times and potential pigmentation difficulties - particularly for darker-pigmented patients. However, in recent years, new and exciting acne scar treatments have emerged.

Dr. Shah is at the forefront of these advanced treatments, offering patients the latest options to achieve optimal results. However, Dr. Shah takes a symbiotic approach to treating acne scars, utilizing multiple techniques to achieve the best possible outcome. By switching between different treatment modes, he can avoid acne scar plateau and ensure that patients see continued improvement over time.

With Dr. Shah's expertise and innovative approach, patients can feel confident in achieving smoother, more even skin.

A Variety of Methods for Optimal Results

As mentioned, Dr. Shah believes in a symbiotic approach to acne scar revision. Here are a few of the methods he has found to be most effective:

Laser Resurfacing

For some patients, lasers can be an effective tool for improving skin texture and reducing the appearance of scars. As an alternative to dermabrasion, Dr. Shah utilizes a combination of erbium, fractionated erbium, C02, and fractionated C02 lasers to resurface the face. While lasers are a relatively superficial resurfacing modality, they can improve skin texture with multiple treatments.

Pinpoint Irradiation

Pinpoint irradiation is a cutting-edge technique for treating acne scars that differs from traditional laser resurfacing. Rather than treating the entire face, including areas unaffected by scarring, pinpoint irradiation uses a single C02 laser beam to discretely target the acne scar while sparing surrounding tissues. This approach allows for a faster recovery by keeping the skin intact and is similar to targeted fractionated C02 treatment that focuses solely on the acne scars rather than random locations. The benefit of this technique is a quicker recovery time and a lower risk of adverse side effects.

Combination of Resurfacing and Pinpoint Irradiation

To resurface the face, Dr. Shah employs a combination of erbium, fractionated erbium, C02, and fractionated C02 lasers. By combining these modalities, he is able to create multiple effects that enhance the overall treatment outcome. For example, while pinpoint irradiation targets specific acne scars, the surrounding area can be treated with a fractionated laser to improve overall skin texture and make the scars themselves less noticeable. This approach ensures that patients achieve the best possible results and enjoy a more even, youthful complexion.

Fractora

Fractora is a groundbreaking technique that involves placing needles deep into the dermis to treat the skin from the bottom up. The advantage of this approach is that the epidermis can be spared, resulting in a faster recovery time if desired. Fractora utilizes radiofrequency needles to improve the texture and appearance of scars, resulting in smoother, more even skin.

Subcision

Subcision involves using a needle to undermine scars and improve their appearance. However, in Dr. Shah's experience, this technique is not effective without filler. The benefit of subcision with filler is that a matrix or spacer of material is placed in the subcised area, using a specialized subcision needle. This space is then filled with a longer-lasting filler product to raise the scar from a depressed area to a flatter appearance. Histological studies have shown that fillers can be replaced in the body with collagen, making subcision and filler an excellent technique for certain types of acne scars.

CROSS TCA

Dr. Shah's CROSS technique uses a deep peel to selectively target acne scars while sparing surrounding skin. This encourages collagen formation, flattening scars and improving texture. Recovery is limited to treated areas, avoiding drawbacks of deep chemical peels. CROSS TCA is effective for treating icepick, pores, and some boxcar scars and may require multiple treatments for optimal results.
