SINUS AND SINUS SURGERY CHICAGO

Sinus Disease
Sinus disease is one of the most common afflictions in the Chicagoland area. Many patients who have nasal obstruction will also have persistent drainage, mucous buildup, postnasal drip and sinus pressure.
The treatment of sinusitis varies depending on what type of variety is present. Acute sinusitis is present less than 2 weeks and can cause intense pressure along the face and head. Typically antibiotic therapy with nasal saline rinses can be effective in treating this condition.
Chronic Sinusitis occurs from one month to longer. It involves the use of antibiotics and nasal saline rinses. It is not uncommon to have persistent allergies and fungal infections within the sinuses.
One treatment of sinus disease for these patients is to perform FESS which is functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Functinal endoscopic sinus surgery is a procedure designed to open up the sinus passages in a nondestructive manner. By opening up the ostia, patients with sinusitis can have improvement of their sinus disease and decrease pressure. FESS is not effective in all patients but can make a major difference in some.
Other conditions which can require therapy include polypectomy or removal of nasal polyps of the nose.
