MEDICATIONS TO AVOID

Attached is a list of medications to avoid prior to surgery.  Please see additional list containing herbal medications as well.  Medications to avoid generally thin the blood.  Some of these medications are in the NSAID family, which works by inhibiting platlets (a clotter of blood) from working effectively.  Ibuprofen or Advil is an example of an NSAID.  Some are specifically designed for blood thinning.  Some medications raise the blood pressure and dilate blood vessels, creating a poor environment for healing, such as Viagra or Cialis.
