Asian Lip Augmentation

There are both a significant number of Asian patients who seek lip reduction as well as augmentation.  The lips are an important structure in the aesthetics of the face.  Overly prominent lips can add unwanted attention to this area.  Conversely, lips which are too thin can make a face feel like it is lacking something.

Prominent lips are reduced by first determining the degree of prominence and removing the portion of the lip which are creating over emphasis.  Dr. Shah prefers scars which are concealed on the inside of the lip hiding any signs of surgery.  Thin lips are augmented with a facial filler.  Planning for both procedures takes place in the context of the prominence of the other facial features, aesthetic goals of the patient, and the ethnicity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will reducing lips reduce my ethnicity?
Patients of Asian background undergo both lip augmentation as well as reduction.  The key is to balance the lips not only to ethnicity but to other facial features.
Is it uncommon for Asian patients to seek lip augmentation?
Not all lip augmentation looks and feels the same. Lip augmentation can be used to add to various portions of the lip so that the lips can look fuller without dominating the face. Asian patients who seek lip augmenation are typically older patients where lip atrophy may have occurred.
Does lip reduction require general anesthesia?
Lip reduction can be performed safely in an office setting, especially since Dr. Shah's extensive experience using local anesthesia and performing lip reduction.
