Acne Scars Hispanic

Dr. Shah treats patients of Hispanic backgrounds for acne scars.  He specializes in treating ethnic skin types so that the scars can be improved while minimizing any potential sequlae (downtime).

Patients from Latin/ Spanish Backgrounds have a wide diversity of skin pigmentation.  Many patients are poor candidates for LASERs and Chemical peels, as these procedures are designed for very fair complexions.  Unfortunately, this means that many Hispanic patients are unable to get adequate treatment for their acne scars.

One method Dr. Shah uses to treat patients of Hispanic backgrounds is Cross-TCA.  Cross-TCA is the use of high concentrations of TCA (100%) so that specific areas of the face are targeted and improved.  While the use of this concentration on the entire face would not be advisable, its use in specific areas allows for patients to have real improvements in acne scars.

The other treatment Dr. Shah offers for patients of Hispanic backgrounds for acne scars is Medical Roll-CIT.  Medical Roll-CIT is the use of long needles which are applied on the face to stimulate collagen.  Dr. Shah uses this with a series of skin preparations to help stimulate new collagen formation.

Both of these treatments are used for different types of acne scars.  The benefit of this treatment in Hispanic patients is improvement in the acne scar with minimize risk associated with LASERs and Chemical peels such as hypopigmentation and further scarring.  In addition, most LASERS and Chemical peels are ineffective as they work mostly on the epidermis, making collagen formation not likely.  The LASERs which do extend to the dermis often times have significant risk for permanent scarring or discoloration in Hispanic patients.
